What is the End of Watch locker room meme?

Last updated:

It is a few seconds from the 2012 cop film End of Watch: an officer in a station locker room shows his gear to a handheld camera, one item at a time, while his partner leans in. Set to 22Gz's "Twirlanta", it became a TikTok meme in 2023 and an AI trend in October 2026.

The film

End of Watch is a 2012 action thriller written and directed by David Ayer, shot documentary-style. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña play LAPD partners Brian Taylor and Mike Zavala, and Taylor films a lot of their days himself, which is where the close handheld camera in the locker room comes from.

The Twirlanta edit

The meme version is an edit of the locker room moment cut to 22Gz's drill track "Twirlanta": a close-up of Gyllenhaal talking to the camera, Peña sliding into the frame, then the gear check, each item landing on the beat. It took off on TikTok in August 2023, after @xylofiles posted the clip over a slowed version of the song.

Most of the 2023 versions were filmed for real. People did the same gear check with whatever they had: airsoft guns, gym gear, a shift at McDonald's or Walmart.

The AI version

In late October 2026, AI versions took over. Instead of filming themselves, people swapped faces and characters into the original footage; many were made with Higgsfield Genjutsu, a video-to-video tool released on 31 August 2026, and captioned "Made with Higgsfield Genjutsu / Original scene: End of Watch (2012)". Cartoon versions went around too, from Zootopia's Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps to Gumball.

In the US, Google searches for "end of watch ai" were still climbing in early November 2026.
